A new society in Ireland for all things Stock Horse.
Promoting American Paint Horse, American Quarter Horse, and Appaloosa Horse
Get involved with the world’s most versatile horses.
Stock Horse Ireland exists to promote the American Stock Breeds or Paint Horse, Quarter Horse and Appaloosa. Though often associated with the western sport one of the best part of these breeds are the versatility of the horses. Many Stock Horses compete in Western, English, and In-hand classes. Though SHI exists to promote these breeds we WELCOME those who admire these breeds or showing classes, who may want to get started on an alternative breed.

Ranch Riding
Ranch Riding is a popular horse show class that judges a horse's ability to be a versatile, practical working ranch horse, performing maneuvers like gait changes and extensions at a forward, controlled pace in an arena setting, emphasizing a natural look, light rein contact, and a willing, athletic attitude rather than just a slow, smooth gait. It simulates ranch tasks, focusing on the horse's quality of movement and responsiveness for tasks from one point to another
-

Western Horsemanship
Western Horsemanship is a rider-focused class that judges the exhibitor's skill in executing a pattern of maneuvers (walk, jog, lope, transitions, turns) using correct posture, effective but subtle aids, and a balanced, functional body.
-

Hunt Seat Equitation
Equitation is an event testing a rider's skill and posture, not just the horse's movement, by having them perform maneuvers like gait changes, figure-eights, and backing up on the flat, focusing on subtle communication for a natural progression to jumping classes. Judges score the rider's ability to sit correctly, maintain posture (hands forward, eyes up, heels down), and control the horse with quiet aids through set patterns and rail work.
-

Ranch Rail Pleasure
Ranch Rail Pleasure is a western discipline judged on the movement of the horse. Looking for natural, ground-covering gaits, self-carriage, and a forward-moving stride, judging their athletic ability, balance, and manners as they move, mimicking a working ranch horse.
-

Western Versatility
Western Versatility is a pattern-based class showcasing a horse's adaptability, requiring 10-15 maneuvers like lead changes, walking/jogging/loping over poles, and extending gaits with forward, ground-covering movement. It emphasizes a responsive, willing horse performing with authority
-

Hunter Under Saddle
A preliminary class for English riding disciplines in which judges evaluate a hunter-type Stock Horse on the flat, at a walk, trot and canter. Emphasis is placed on smoothness of gait, free-flowing stride and willingness to perform. Exhibitors wear traditional English attire.
-

Showmanship
Halter Showmanship is an in-hand event that highlights the exhibitor's expertise in presenting their horse through a designated sequence of maneuvers. Rather than assessing the animal's conformation or gait, the judge focuses on the handler’s preparation, grooming standards, and technical precision. Success depends on the exhibitor's poise and their horse’s responsiveness during transitions, pivots, and backing, as well as the efficiency of the "set up" during the final inspection.es here

Halter
This in-hand event evaluates how closely an individual horse matches the ideal physical standards of the stock-type breed. Classes are organized by sex and age to ensure fair comparison. After traveling the horse at a walk and trot to demonstrate athletic ability and soundness, exhibitors "set up" for a close-up inspection. The judge prioritizes proportional balance above all else, while also weighing skeletal correctness, muscle definition, and distinct breed character.

English Versatility
English Versatility is a new, engaging, and purposeful class designed to showcase the well-trained English horse's versatility across multiple gaits and maneuvers. It emphasizes a forward-moving, light-contact horse, featuring a walk, trot, hand gallop, and pattern work, ideal for all-arounders and hunter prospects.
